The Top 4 Reasons You’re Suffering from Dull Skin – and How to Get that Radiant Glow!

Sometimes you might look at yourself in the mirror and think: Ugh. My skin is just looking so dull. Aside from not drinking enough water or not getting a good night’s sleep, there are several reasons why your skin might be lacking that natural glow! We’ve identified the top reasons why your skin may be lackluster and come up with products that will do the trick to fight the dullness so you can have your most radiant skin yet!

Problem: Dead skin cells are making your complexion look dull. We don’t always think about the fact that we need to be exfoliating our skin regularly to ensure cell turnover and to make sure that dead skin cells aren’t just sitting on the top layer of your skin. This is a major cause for a lackluster complexion.

Solution: A gentle exfoliating serum at night followed by a physical exfoliant in the morning, 2-3 times a week. Giving your skin a boost of exfoliation a few times a week can really help to create that radiant glow. You’ll want to apply a gentle exfoliating serum like Arcona’s Gentle Solution at night, and the following morning you’ll use a physical exfoliating scrub, like Arcona’s Cranberry Gommage. Do this 2-3 times a week depending on your skin type, and you’ll have glowing skin in no time!

Problem: Your skin is majorly lacking hydration. Without enough moisture your skin can be majorly lacking in the radiance department. Loss of hydration from below the skin’s surface can even cause a decrease in the thickness of your skin which can cause even a duller complexion.

Solution: Pat on a hyaluronic acid serum followed by an emollient-rich moisturizer (+ drink lots of water!) A hyaluronic acid serum like Epicuren’s Moisture Surge will bind moisture to the skin and promote ten times more hydration than a moisturizer by itself. Follow it with an emollient-rich moisturizer like the Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer from Eminence. It contains coconut and grape seed oil to deeply hydrate the skin, and a natural retinol alternative to boost collagen production. Finally, drinking enough water is the main way to keep your skin hydrated and your body healthy.

Problem: Air pollution and poor air quality. That’s right – polluted air can actually be creating a host of problems for your skin. Free radicals on your skin from air pollution can damage collagen and cause hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and uneven texture.

Solution: Make sure you’re washing your face every single night! An antioxidant rich facial cleanser like the White Tea Purifying Cleanser from Arcona can help calm and soothe the skin while neutralizing free radicals. Your skin will be refreshed and clarified without being stripped of its natural moisture. This step is super important – makeup removing wipes are not enough to remove pollution!

Problem: You’re getting too much sun exposure. We all know it but few of us do it – you have to be wearing sunscreen every. single. day. Getting too much sun can cause hyperpigmentation uneven texture, and weakened collagen, not to mention making you more prone to skin cancer.

Solution: Wear your sun protection! Products like Epicuren’s Zinc Oxide and X-Treme Cream (available in our stores) do a fabulous job at protecting your skin from the sun without clogging your pores. Choose the Zinc if you’re more prone to getting oily throughout the day. The X-Treme Cream is great for drier skin types.
