Practicing Mindfulness

Practicing Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of being consciously aware in the present moment without judging your experience; it is being mindful of every detail in the here and now. Basically, it is living in the moment in which one can enjoy a sense of peace within. Mindfulness can help reduce stress, improve compassion and workplace performance. It is a concentration exercise. Mindfulness does not work for everyone but helps one work through challenging emotions in order to find comfort in them. Mindfulness can significantly improve the way we experience our lives although no one ever really masters it, and it is an ongoing practice. Mindfulness is one form of meditation and is a technique where you direct your focus on the current moment. Mindfulness gives us a glimpse into the moments that really matter.

Having A Mindful Mindset

However, the following are some things that mindful people do differently: Approach everyday things with curiosity and savor them, forgive mistakes- big or small, show gratitude for good moments and grace for bad ones, practice compassion and nurture connections , make peace with imperfections-inside and out, embrace vulnerability by trusting others and themselves, and accept and appreciate that things come and go. Mindfulness empowers us by helping us to take control of what we’re feeling and how we react. Today stress, anxiety, burnout, chronic pain and even forms of cancer are treated with mindfulness, which is called “Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy”. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is also a type of therapy that can help to reduce stress and achieve a sense of relaxation. With MBSR, a person can refine his or her sense of concentration, gaining more appreciation for life.

 Practice Makes Perfect

Likewise, giant corporations such as Nike and Google are using mindfulness to improve productivity. Some benefits of mindfulness are a greater sense of well-being, improved ability to remain task-focused, better equipped to cope with stress, awareness of mental roadblocks, and a more cohesive team environment. Moreover, there are nine easy ways to be more mindful at work.

  • Spend a few minutes silently tuning in to the moment and become aware of your thoughts.
  • Practice active listening
  • Notice your body language
  • Watch the tone and language in your communications-be mindful of the message you intend to send
  • Eat mindfully
  • When stressed, take time out.
  • Respect all people, even if you may not agree with their ideas.
  • When communicating remember to THINK: Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? Is it kind?
  • Stay in the moment!

Lastly, mindfulness makes us more compassionate because when we’re more aware of others and how they feel, we can respond in a more empathetic way. Mindfulness doesn’t just empower us – it also helps everyone around us too, creating a cycle of positivity.
